Sophomore Industrial Design Studio could be described as an “Introduction to Industrial Design” and is taught in conjunction with Materials and Process, Visual Communication and Visual Thinking courses. The projects encourage and enable students to learn and practice fundamental industrial design concepts, skills and philosophies of good design such as conducting basic research, form following function, affordances, product semantics, materials and manufacturing methods, problem solving, simplicity, proportions, rapid ideation, prototyping, sustainability, and basic documentation.

Created for the adventurer in mind, Dura is a bag made from 90% sustainably sourced materials including up-cycled vinyl billboards, life jackets, and old bags. Not only are the backpacks spacious inside, but they are also ultralight and are able to withstand whatever the weather wants to throw at it.
Made from an old tire and scrap wood, Aureola has transformed these upcycled items into a mid-century modern style coffee table, bringing a unique element to your home.
G is a sustainable molded bedside table, designed to embellish your desired space. Its “G” curves were created to provide multiple shelving and private space without the need of a drawer. G is made with discarded wood using a bent lamination process, and has a natural cherry wood finish with jute details.
Mero is an environmentally sustainable modern wall clock. Its main body is fabricated from molded compostable paper pulp and features an accent bamboo piece. These two main materials are sustainable and renewable. Mero’s elevated sections allow for a contemporary method of reading time. MERO is a functional, dimensional, and environmentally conscious piece for any room.
Through the power of design, discarded objects and materials can be given a new life, transforming one person’s trash into another’s treasure. Inlay is a perfect example of this way of thinking. It is made from used plastic Mardi Gras beads embedded into EcoPoxy resin while the base is made from recycled wood. Up-cycling the Plastic Beads, it saves them from ending up in landfills or nearby lakes where they will not decompose. The uniquely designed tabletop was inspired by mosaic tiles and topographical maps, wanting to use the colors in the beads to the best of their ability. Inlay will surely be a conversation piece in any room, showing how reusing materials can become just as beautiful if not better than a newly made design.
Whether serving guests during dinner parties or hangouts. ENTRAY is the perfect serving platter to add to your kitchenware collection. ENTRAY comes with a HDPE plastic serving board three wooden serving dishes that can be taken out of the board for easy sharing.
HORIZON is a knife holder designed to hold 7 knives total with blade lengths up to 8 in long. The product comes as a 4 piece set with screws which allows for flat shipping. HORIZON is made out of entirely reclaimed plastic, and the separate pieces also allow for adequate recycling when the product meets the end of its life.
Equipe is a computer bag made of a yard sign, plastic bags, and a repurposed strap. No glue was used, instead the metallic bar slips inside the grooves of a yard sign that has been laser cut and folded on itself. This system keeps the bag together. Moreover, it has a magnetic opening and a cushioned inside made of repurposed plastic bags to protect and secure the computer inside.
The objective of this project was to up-cycle a material or object that is commonly thrown out into a sell-able product. The up-cycled material chosen was corrugated plastic sheets and steel rods obtained from yard signs, specifically campaign signs. The final model is a pendant lamp that is made up of 9 individual parts and is unfolded from the packaging to form a lamp that can be hung from the ceiling. The corrugated plastic is semi-transparent and double layered to allow light to diffuse. The model can be shipped and assembled easily for any home.
A desk lamp made of primarily corrugated plastic from political campaign signs. This project challenged students to create a product from upcycled materials that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Tiddbittly is an eco-based pet food dispenser. Made from bamboo, bio-based epoxy resin, and sawdust, it is entirely bio-degradable. Capable of holding 2.75 gallons of pet food, it uses gravity to dispense food bits, continually refilling the two dishes. If the user wishes to cut off the food supply, a lever is positioned on each side to control a door inside and block and release the food.
Elevate is a sustainable sport bag made of reclaimed materials such as billboards, shopping bags, bubble envelopes, and car shades. The bag has a waterproof exterior that can keep your sensitive electronics safe from the elements. It also has an insulated interior that will keep your drinks and snacks cold for hours. Its adjustable strap provides a snug fit for active running or jumping. Whether you are hiking in the mountains or riding the water rapids, Elevate is the perfect bag for every adventure.

Mont was created as a solution to limited storage space. Living in small homes or apartments restrict owners to store what they need. Mont is a multi functional side table made completely from discarded wood. It can be used anywhere around the house and can be stacked to create a shelf. Users have a choice of using them separated in spaces required or together as a shelf.
Dune, a pair of sandals that make for a nice casual addition to any wardrobe for either indoor or outdoor use. The sandals are sustainable and made from almost entirely eco-friendly materials. The wrapping is jute, tread made from natural rubber, and the insole from cork. Walk into sustainability with Dune.
