3rd Year Studio Gallery
3rd year students conducted design research and executed a systematic design process with an emphasis on Human-Centered Design, and humanizing technology. Junior projects were developed as an integration of products and services into complex systems with knowledge shared between users, markets, technology, and local/global culture.
Gaud is inspired by the extravagance and ornamental details of avant-garde runway fashion. The chair is also a display of power as it is an interpretation of a throne. The delicate frame and fabric gives it a soft, light presence, the colors and excess let it be bold and inhabit a space of its own.

Manta is a chair that combines modern, sculptural form with traditional weaving technique called macrame, resulting in a statement chair. Inspired by hammocks, the woven cotton rope gives the user the feeling that they are on vacation wherever they are, while the steel frame provides a sturdy but portable structure.

This ongoing 3D-Printed Prosthesis Project takes advantage of additive manufacturing in order to provide limbs for those who can’t afford one. It allows full customization and the possibility of a working prototype that can be enhanced in the future, reduced its number of parts and provide finer dexterity.

T-fresh is a polyester dry-fit high-visibility and cooling construction shirt that prevents workers from a heat stroke or heat exhaustion. It has packaged PVA towels with water on the inside that provides a refreshing feeling on the body for up to 4 hrs and 6 hrs of regulating the body temperature.

Too often we’re distracted by the events of the physical world, or burdened from the thoughts in our minds. Introspection and meditation is forgotten or seen as a luxury, but a balance of the body, mind and soul is an attainable state, even through primitive tools. Maybe by achieving balance through instability, we find peace somewhere in the middle between where we dwell and what we dwell on.

The goal was to design the lobby of a clinic for Legacy Community Health and Houston Habitat for Humanity to be constructed at Robins Landing. Our focus was community, inviting environment, flexibility and lighting.

Robyn is a modular seating system for public spaces. Robyn has 3 different heights and 2 different widths. The pieces are constructed from CNC milled pieces of 4x8 plywood. The furniture system is designed to bring the community together with its large seats and fun shapes and a dramatic scale. Robyn is named after the community it was designed for.

The AnyKid Academy app combats gender stereotypes by teaching kids gender tolerance; tolerance of how others express gender differently. The app is split into topics that are heavily gender stereotyped like colors, toys and jobs. In each topic kids learn to callout gender bullying, play a game, and review what they have learned.

LOOP is inspired by my passion for traveling. The four key aspects of the design are: adaptability, breathability, colorful and materiality, specifically, tubular steel. Loop has straps underneath for support. On top is waterproof neoprene fabric sleeve that conforms to your body, your spine, your comfort. Loop takes you places.
